Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add resources?
Only site administrators can add resources at this time. The final non beta version of inspire will allow users to be issued with a login so that they can become uploaders. Uploaded content will not go live until it has been examined by a CLC moderator and passed certain criteria required by the Data protection act. If you have material that you would like to be uploaded to inspire beta you should email it to inspire@brentclc.com with the word UPLOAD in the subject line.
How do I download resources?
There are two ways to download resources, you can either search for the resource using the search link on the left, or browse through all the resources using the browse link. Once you have found the resources you want, simply click on its name, and then click the download button. As functionality is improved Inspire will recognise filetypes and manage them much better, offering the option to preview a video or picture, listen to audio, before deciding if you would like to download.
What happens if I select Open the resource file?
You should only select open if you have the program which can recognise the file. Bear in mind that opening a file may take a while because it has to be downloaded and then opened in its application.
What is Inspire?
Inspire is The City Learning Centre's Creative Learning database where you can find shared learning resources. Inspire stores images, video, audio, word files and multimedia such as powerpoint. It allows users to preview audio and video which is now stored as Flash, allowing faster streaming and previewing. Related resources can be linked and appear in searches. Eventually there will be customized templates assigned to specific resources to give added value and specific branding.
What type of files can be uploaded to inspire?
Inspire is able to store and manage a wide variety of different file formats although there may not be a previewer available for all just yet. Inspire will upload, store and catalogue any file format. The main ones are Word, Excel, Powerpoint. All graphics (jpg, tiff, bmp, gif etc), video (wmv, mov, avi), audio (mp3, wma, aac, wav). Inspire can also recognise and play Flash Video (flv) and Shockwave Flash (swf) files. We are aiming to standardise on Flashvideo and Shockwave Flash to ensure cross platform compatibility and speed of access.
